RAKKAUS JA EPÄTOIVO (LOVE AND DESPAIR) (2009)


Kaupunkivaelluksen tuloksena syntyneessä videopäiväkirjassa kokeilin musiikkivideomaista editointia. Teoksesta tuli synkän romanttinen luotaus tulvivan joen ansiosta uppoavalta tuntuvan kaupungin traumaattiseen historiaan.

I tried to make a videodiary from Budapest which would be edited like a music video. Instead, it became a gloomy and romantic view on the traumatic history of the 20th century history in Hungary. The images of the flood by the river seems to suggest that the city is sinking.

MOOLOK-BAAL (MOLOCH-BAAL) (2009)

Moolok-Baal (2009) viittaa Allen Ginsbergin runoon "Huuto", jossa Moolok merkitsee markkinataloudelle ja kulutusteollisuudelle perustuvaa yhteiskuntaa. Toisin kuin Vanhan testamentin pelottavan ja ihmisuhreja vaativan jumalan kohdalla nyky-Moolokin kitaan mennään mielellään. Moolok-Baal (2009) refers to Allen Ginsberg's poem "Howl", where Moloch represents the conforming features of the capitalism-based consumer society. Rather than fearing the human-eating archaic god depicted in the Old Testament, we love to be eaten by the contemporary Moloch.

SUOJELU (GUARDIAN CREATURES) (2005)

Suojelua (2005) ei olisi syntynyt ilman lapsuutta kasarmipaikkakunnalla. Teokseen on kuvattu valokuvia omasta lapsuudestani sekä televisiosta tulleen suomalaisen sotilasfarssin kuvia videokameran linssin edessä lasiastian läpi optisten efektien aikaansaamiseksi. Lopuksi koetin valonlähdettä kuvaamalla muovata videolle muotoja, jotka muistuttavat siipiä ja kahta hirviömäisen hevosmaisen olennon päätä. Guardian creatures (2005) I wouldn´t have done this work without a childhood in a town with miltary barracks always present. I used the photographs of my own childhood and images from a Finnish military comedy and filmed them with the video camera throug a thick glass vessel to get distortions that work like video effects, but in a much more organic way. In the end of the work there are forms of wings or horrific horse-like other-wordly creatures (what ever you want to see), made by videoing a light source in the same way.

THE SLICER (2007)

The Slicer (2007) on yhden otoksen video TV-ruudusta kuvattujen taitoluistelukilpailujen yhdestä suorituksesta. Kuvaaja pyrkii säilyttämään abstrahoituvan kuvassa jännitteen pitämällä kameraa paikallaan. Kilpailu, taito, yritys ja epäonnistuminen muodostuvat draamaksi kilpailua selostavan selostajan selostuksessa, joka tuntuu kommentoivan myös teoksen muotoutumista itsessään. The Slicer (2007) is a one-shot structuralist video videoed from a  regular television set showing a performance in a skating competition. The tension in keeping on a certain quality in abstracted image is compared to the skill of the skaters when they try to maintain their level in the competition.
